Ecological Centre

Aroha is a secluded island offering a unique ecological experience. You have the opportunity to see live Kiwi and a diversity of other birds and wildlife. We recommend you check out our displays in our Information Centre before you take a walk.

Peaceful and tranquil, we invite you to come and unwind. Stroll the private beach, experience the native bush, explore the coastline in our kayaks, study in the Ecological Centre, ... or simply enjoy the leisurely pace of island life. "There is something about this island. There's a sense of compassion, peace and love here" said Dr Colin Little, former owner.

Aroha has been extensively refurbished and is now under community management.

In the Aroha Island Ecological Education and Information Centre you can learn about:

  • The North Island Brown Kiwi
  • Ways to control predators
  • The flora and fauna of the island
  • Sustainable use of land, water and other resources
  • The Queen Elizabeth II National Trust

Come and:

  • Enjoy the giant mural of our birds and trees
  • Investigate the exhibits
  • Watch the free "Save the Kiwi" DVD
  • Browse our library
  • Access our information on the Rangitane Scenic Reserve and Aroha
