In our Eco Centre you can enjoy our kiwi and bird displays as well as our beautiful mural depicting a day and night at Aroha Island, by artist Keith Woodley. You can learn about the history of the island, browse our library or the kids can learn and have fun in our interactive children’s corner.
The Centre is open seven days a week between 9am and 6pm (closed 12 – 2pm). There is free parking next to the Centre and we have good disabled access and toilets. Our staff are on hand to provide you with information and help you enjoy your time whilst visiting Aroha Island.
The Eco Centre is available for hire – it has a large meeting space, a fully equipped commercial kitchen, a small gift shop, a sunny deck and a BBQ area. The centre has a DVD player, projector and screen for presentations and a heat pump for those cooler winter days.
Aroha Island is a perfect location for special events – walking groups, special interest groups (birders, astrologers), workshops, retreats, annual get togethers, significant birthdays, family reunions and work training programmes.
It is the ideal location for LOTC (Learning Outside the Classroom) programmes – rocky shore & mangrove studies; bush, birds and bugs; conservation in practice; kauri and native trees; cultural studies – harakeke weaving & rongoā Māori; and various outdoor pursuits. We have great versatility for educational groups having a range of accommodation options on offer and a fully equipped centre with kitchen.
If you are looking for a location surrounded by native bush full of bird song and kiwi calls, then please contact our managers today to discuss your requirements.
Please note: Until the 16th December the Island is closed to all visitors on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
